Q&A with “My Demons” Author Ari’ell Sprows

“My Demons” Author Ari’ell Sprows discuss her influences and next project.

By Juan C. Diaz @tearsofdiaz

1. What city are you from?

I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. I was raised with one older sister and later in my teenage years, my mother had my little brother.

2. How has your city influenced your writing?

My city influenced my writing tremendously because the trials that I faced happened in my city. Louisville, Kentucky introduced me to the real world, the real world is what helped layer my thick skin for life. Writing has always been a passion of mine, so the combination of the two made a great book.

3. What inspired you to write My Demons?

MY DEMONS started as a journal entry, I wanted to give myself the opportunity to have closure for my past mistakes. When I realized that my story was important I decided to take a different route, “turn my story into a book, so that it can inspire the world”. I wrote “MY DEMONS” to motivate and encourage others, the book itself speaks volume. It gives the reader a chance to evaluate their own faults, to make themselves a priority so that they can be better in life.

4. Who are some of your literary influences?

James Patterson is the one and the only person who has influenced me to join the literary world. The way that he writes his books has encouraged me to express myself in more ways than just one. He writes more than one genre, and that shows that he has an amazing creative mind.

5. Your book is extremely personal, was it painful for you to relive certain moment during the writing process?
Reliving my past moments was very challenging to write, I cried while writing some parts of my book. But when I have seen the finished product, I was and still am ecstatic because I was finally honest with myself.

6. What message do you hope readers will take away from your book?

When my reader puts my book down, I want their minds to wonder. I want them to reevaluate their lives and realize that making certain choices can last a lifetime. But how we deal with these choices means a lot, we have to co-exist with ourselves and strive to be better. I want my readers to know that they are amazing and deserve to be happy and honest with themselves. Are you surrounded by the wrong crowd of people? If you’re in an abusive relationship, seek help to get out. How can we make dreams come true? Our past doesn’t determine the future we deserve. You are your own demon.

7.  What is your next project?

I have a book series coming out this summer called, “LOVE LOST BEAUTIFUL BETRAYAL”. I am also working on making an appearance in the film industry. This year has brought so much joy, I’m motivated to push myself to the next level.

Editors pick of the month “Unanswered Questions” by Complex Angel

Hello Readers,

Each month, me and Juan Carlos Diaz will highlight one book that we think you the reader should read. The books can be self published or published by a major press company. What we do is highlight the books that we feel that are good to read. We also want to encourage readers to support upcoming authors as well. You’re support can go a long way towards helping those follow their dreams. You can find these books on Amazon.com.

Here is my pick that I recommend you to buy and read and share as well.

“He was everything I wanted and needed at the time. His love was the medicine for my pain or so I thought. ~ Vada Walker was not your average ‘wear your heart on your sleeve’ type female. At one point in her life that may have been the case. But after the father she loved so dearly walks out her life with no explanation and being betrayed by her best friend/true love. She vowed to only feel pain and pleasure in between her legs before she ever allowed it in her heart again. Vada Walker represents all females who have been betrayed, lost, and have held grudges and said their apologies too late…I am Vada and this is a story resembling my life.”

Tears We Cannot Stop: A Sermon To White America- Michael Eric Dyson (NYT Best Seller)
Short, emotional, literary, powerful―Tears We Cannot Stop is the book that all Americans who care about the current and long-burning crisis in race relations will want to read.

As the country grapples with racist division at a level not seen since the 1960s, one man’s voice soars above the rest with conviction and compassion. In his 2016 New York Times op-ed piece “Death in Black and White,” Michael Eric Dyson moved a nation. Now he continues to speak out in Tears We Cannot Stop―a provocative and deeply personal call for change. Dyson argues that if we are to make real racial progress we must face difficult truths, including being honest about how black grievance has been ignored, dismissed, or discounted.

A Review on Michael Eric Dyson’s New Book Tears We Cannot Stop: A Sermon to White America

By Juan Carlos Diaz

Esteemed Georgetown Sociology professor Michael Eric Dyson has taken the realms of philosophy and American culture by storm with his latest book Tear We Cannot Stop: A Sermon to White America. In this particular book, Dyson hashes out some harsh truths about white culture in 21st century America and how minorities a viewed in the eyes of “Tribal  Whiteness,” which means that there seems to be a sense of entitlement or some kind of extended privilege, Dyson states in his book, however, that most whites in American society are oblivious of the fact that they subscribe or benefit from white privilege. Dyson reiterates this theory by pointing out the fact that although there are many whites living in poverty, some of them still feel like they have the upper hand on black or any other minority group simply due to the pigmentation of their skin.

When preparing to write this review, however, I feared that some of our reader might view this book as an angry rant on white America by an African American intellectual, but that is not the case. What Dyson tries to convey his new book is a clear and concise understanding of the plight that African Americans have faced for centuries due to the oblivious nature of white privilege. The genius of this book, however is the soft tone in which the book is written. In other words, it is neither condescending or grandiose; rather it speaks to its audience in kind and loving tone, often referring to then as beloved or brothers and sisters. All and all, Dyson’s book wants us all to see that we are equal in the eyes of GOD.

Interview with Author Keanon Chambers

Interview with Author Keanon Chambers

By Juan Carlos Diaz

Twenty-six-year-old Keanon Chambers is perhaps one of the brightest literary stars to rise from Delaware’s underground literary scene. A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Chambers states that what influenced him to become a writer were the negative things that were occurring throughout his neighborhood when he was growing up. “I was aware of all the bad elements of my neighborhood and said to myself. Na, that’s not the route that I’m choosing for my future,” stated Chambers. He also says that reading became the ultimate escape for him. “For me books became doors to rooms I could escape to and be able to experience a totally different environment other than the one I was living in.” It wasn’t until Keanon reached his mid-twenties, however, that he realized that he too had the ability and the talent to write. “I remember I was constantly reading novels written by Eric Jerome Dickey, Walter Mosely, and Zane when one day I came to the realization that I was capable of writing my own book,” said Chambers.

With his creativity and passion already fueled, Keanon embarked on a journey to create the character Sergei Santana, who is the main character of Chambers’ first book titled Mirrored Faces: There Are Two Sides to Every Ego. In this tale, Chambers gives readers a glimpse into the life of a former U.S. spy who is now a multi-billion-dollar owner of a carrier company. However, Santana’s days as a spy are brought back into his life when his family is suddenly attacked by a terrorist he helped arrest years prior to the main events in the story. With his first book already receiving great reviews, Chambers says he is hard at work on the next installment of this series, hoping to inspire other youngsters like himself. For more information on Keanon Chamber visit Amazon.com where his book can be purchased. A Kindle version is also available for download.

Publishing Myths First-Time Authors

Publishing Myths First-Time Authors

by Juan Diaz

Upon entering my fifth year as a published author, this is perhaps the most asked question when people see me in public: “Juan, how much money do you make off of your books?” At the mere sound of that question I can’t help but smile because I know that somewhere in that person’s mind they had developed the notion in their mind that I have made tons of cash upon the release of my books. Sadly, that is not the case for first-time authors. For example, if a person decides to self-publish their book, they must fully know they must take full responsibility of almost every single aspect with the publication of their book, which can deal with paying for their book to be published; along with doing their own promotion and trying to put their book on store shelves. Again, the self-published authors need to spend money to make all those possible. If the author wants their book to gain the full exposure; they must invest money into marketing to be successful in the market. In other words, the author can’t sit back and expect that the company that printed their book is going to do all the promotion for their book. That would be an epic fail in a commercial sense.

However, the first-time author should never fear the promotional aspect of their book. First of all, the author should familiarize themselves with the promotional packages of various self-publishing companies. For example, some companies may offer promotion for an author’s book for three months. However, other companies may offer a longer period of promotion. Also, authors should be made aware of how their book is being promoted. That is to say, what methods are being used by the company to promote the author’s book. If by any chance the company is not clear on how the author’s work will be promoted by no means should the author sign with that company. The author should also be aware that social media outlets are great tools to help promote their book. For instance, Facebook allows authors to by ad space for their book for just $5. The site also allows authors to create fan pages for their book. Above all, social media allows authors to network with one another, which can be vital for the growth of the authors writing career. The author must keep in mind, however, that it’s very rare that they will become millionaires with the publication of their book. Keep in mind that when writing a book one should do it for the sake of art not for fortune and fame.
