Our readers would like to know a little bit about you. What’s your name, where you from, and what is your profession?

I grew up in Cairo, Egypt where my family operated a leather manufacturing company founded in 1827. I moved to New York City in 1974 where I took a job with the exotic handbag company Finesse, before moving on to join the legendary Morris Moskowitz. After absorbing everything he could while working for these handbag giants, I founded my own company, Sharif Designs, Ltd in 1979, which I built into the largest American handbag manufacturer by the late 1980s.

How long have you been designing handbags?

Decades. In the Handbag Museum, our decade was the 80’s

What made you decide to be in the fashion industry?

My family was in the leather cigar box trade & I made my 1st pieces out of remnants & cut-offs which gave birth to my mélange technique.

Who inspires you in the fashion industry or personal?

Kate & Mallory, Iman, A.N.T.M. Tyra Banks, Gucci, Y.S.l.

Looking at your products, your products have more of a culture feel when it comes uniqueness and style. What is the difference between your products and other products?

“Rules are made to be broken—and nowhere is that more apparent than in Sharif’s bold, colorful, unique bag designs.”¶

Deriving inspiration from cultural elements and materials found all over the world.  I cultivated a worldwide following for my award-winning, signature style that playfully combines leathers, textiles and unique hardware in distinctive silhouettes. By fusing stunning style and flawless function, my handbags go beyond the aesthetic to deliver designs that are simply unlike any other.

Tell me about the designs and colors of each product and what they represent.

We went back to my Egyptian heritage & into the decades worth of archives, to update & rework my most. We have premiered them on Evine to rave reviews & sell-outs. Something you may want to focus on is that the designs are limited & works of art & get bought up quickly & then there are no more.

Take me through the process of creating, designing, and manufacturing each product. What is that process like and how long does it take?

We have a design team like no other & work out of our Showroom in New York. We have the means to manufacture out of factories all over the world & use only Top Grain Leather & the finest hardware.

What was the biggest challenge that your company had to face?

Pivoting from department stores aka brick & mortar to online & TV shopping.

Sharif3_3754

When consumers see your product, what is their first impression about your products?

Enchanting innovative & conversation starters.

After they purchase your product, what type of feedback do you receive from buyers?

we have a fan base going back for decades. that only happens when the product is quality

737-189_01_swatch

What other products that you are currently working at this moment?

A shoe. Wedge Sandal.

Any special sales that your company is doing for this Spring?

We will be showing our Spring 2018 Collection on Evine next week on April 26th through 28th & the showtimes can be found here:

Guo Pei | Haute Couture Spring Summer 2018 Full Show | Exclusive

Guo Pei is China’s most renowned couturier. For over 20 years, she has been dressing celebrities, distinguished ladies, royalty and political elite who turn to her for show-stopping, magnificent creations when they want to look beautiful and stand out from the crowd.
A modern messenger of her cultural heritage, Guo Pei has breathed new life into embroidery and painting traditions that date back thousands of years. Showcasing the finest of traditional Chinese craftsmanship while incorporating contemporary innovation and Western style, Guo Pei is a passionate artisan who wants to evoke people’s emotions and inspire people through her art.
In the world of Guo Pei, fabric, shape, and texture resonate with meaning. Inspired by fairy tales, legends, and even military history, every creation tells a story and is a canvas for artistic expression, bringing beauty, romance and the designer’s imagination to life. They tell the stories which paintings and embroidery have conveyed throughout the centuries.

ORIGINS OF A COUTURIER
Guo Pei’s lifelong passion for couture is deeply rooted in her childhood dream: an aspiration to perfection, born from the contemplation of beauty. Born in 1967, she started sewing when she was two years old, and quickly developed a passion for dressmaking. In 1986, she graduated at the top of her class from the Beijing School of Industrial Fashion Design and spent the next 10 years designing for major manufacturers.

In 1997 she launched her own label and atelier, Rose Studio, where she has been passing on her savoir-faire to a new generation of embroiderers. Today, she employs nearly 500 skilled artisans dedicated to producing her stunning creations, some of which can take thousands of hours and up to two years to complete.

As Guo Pei’s reputation for high-quality, bespoke designs has grown, so has her influence. From daywear for successful businesswomen to elegant gowns for the red carpet, to elaborate wedding gowns, or costumes for films, the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and the annual CCTV New Year’s gala, Guo Pei is one of China’s most prolific designers.

FROM BEIJING TO PARIS
2015 marked a major turning point for Guo Pei, when the pop singer Rihanna chose to wear one of her designs to the Met Gala, inaugurating the museum’s “China: Through the Looking Glass” exhibition, in which Guo’s works were shown. In July 2015, she held her first solo exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris; she followed that with a sold-out collaborative makeup collection with MAC. Later that year, Guo was honored to become an invited member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, the chief governing body of the high-fashion industry, allowing her to show on the Paris Haute Couture Week calendar.
Guo made her Paris Haute Couture debut in January 2016, unveiling her “Courtyard” collection to wide critical acclaim. In the same year, she was also named one of TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People and one of the Businesses of Fashion’s 500 most influential people shaping the global fashion industry.

With a new studio on the prestigious Rue Saint Honoré in Paris, and the launch of an eponymous brand, Guo Pei, the future holds exciting possibilities.

Which begs the question to our readers, who is Anna Davidsson, and why she will be an artist to look out for down the road.

When did you fell in love with art?

I fell in love with art at a very young age, I’ve always loved to create, whether it’s about writing, editing or painting. I think I’ve always had it inside me. As a child, I made my own fashion magazines and gave them to my friends and my family.

What made you fall in love with art?

In some way, art gives me a rush. It’s fantastic to see a creative idea come to life. It’s a way of expressing yourself, your feelings and thoughts.

Why is art important to you?

For me art is a way of life, it’s also a big part of life. Everywhere you look, there is art. The buildings around you, the car you drive, the clothes you wear. I think people tend to forget that they are surrounded by art all the time.

Who inspires you as a child and now?

I remember that I started to read fashion magazines at a very young age, I wasn’t even a teenager at that point. I got so inspired by all the editorials, the models, and fashion shows. Today I find inspiration everywhere, it’s hard to point out something specific, but of course, I find much of it from fashion shows and magazines.

How important is art in today’s society?

I feel like it is more important than ever. Through art, we can send out messages to the world. The way we are treating the earth these days are horrifying and I hope that through art and solidarity we can make a good change in the right direction.

Explain to me the absence of art would do to you and society?

If art was absent, I don’t think our society would exist. We are living art in my opinion.

Give us a little background history about you and your brand?

I was born and raised in a little town called Varberg located on the Swedish west coast. I’ve had a normal and safe childhood. But I have always felt different and a little bit of an outsider. But I don’t feel like that is something bad today, actually I think it has given me strength and the ability to be understanding with others. A FASHION started out as a hobby when I was in college. I discovered how fun it was to edit videos, and since fashion is my biggest passion, the combination of these two things was perfect. And since then my channel has grown so much, I never thought A FASHION would become so popular and appreciated by so many people from all over the world.

Have you had any experience in the fashion industry?

No, not really. My biggest dream is to attend the big fashion shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris.

When I saw your videos on the latest trends, I decided to post them up to our blog because they were insightful, and well put together. I posted up your latest video which is “Hair & Makeup Trends” and it got almost 12 likes on the blog the moment it was posted.  I am sure you got a boost of viewers as well. Explain to me how you can come up with the videos you make and how much time do you have to devote to make sure that the information you gather into the clips is accurate?

Thank you, it means so much to me when people appreciate my work. I come up with my videos ideas when I feel inspired, like sometimes when I hear a song I can picture a video in front of me. When I make the trends videos I look at all the fashion shows I like and it doesn’t take long before I see the what’s going to be popular for the upcoming season. And sometimes I go through magazines and blogs as well to see what kind of trends they have noticed.

In your opinion, where do you see fashion heading to in five years?

I really hope for more diversity within the fashion industry, both when it comes to size and color. I definitely see more environmentally conscious fashion.

Do you have any concerns about the fashion industry?

Yes, there are things I’m concerned about. How the industry affects the environment. Also when it comes to models, I’m hoping for harder restrictions when it comes to the model’s health and age.

Do you think designers are losing creativity when it comes to style and looks?

No, I don’t think so. Fashion follows time in my opinion. What seemed out of style before can be in style today.

Are you a designer, if yes, how long have you been designing?

No, I’m not. I’m more into styling.

If no, are you planning on being a designer or a fashion critic?

My dream is to work in the fashion business, I’m not really sure about what I want to do exactly, but I love styling and I love to make videos, so to combine these two would be perfect.

Break down your own style as of professional, special occasion, or going out?

I dress very minimalistic, I think I have the typical “Scandinavian style”, very clean, tailored and a lot of black and white.

What are the do’s and don’ts when it comes to men fashion or women fashion?

That’s a tough question. I guess it depends on the occasion and situation.

What are the do’s and don’ts when it comes to makeup and accessories?

I love natural makeup, I don’t use that many products. Sometimes I see girls with too dark or light foundation, the colors are not matching etc. I could never go out like that. When it comes to accessories I feel more experimental, because I usually dress very clean and then it’s fun to be more creative with jewelry. I don’t like too much bling though. But this is just my opinion.

If I show up to a cocktail party with a SpongeBob shirt and sweatpants; have I violated the fashion code?

It depends, maybe the party did have a cartoon theme. I’ve seen Jeremy Scott use a lot of cartoons in his designs that can be used on a lot of occasions.

What would you recommend for a woman to wear who are going out for an interview or date?

Not too much, not too little. But most importantly, something you feel comfortable in!

What is your ultimate goal personal and professional?

My ultimate goal is to pursue my dreams, at least try my best to reach them. Personally, I want to live a life where I can feel peace within myself. I’ve been struggling a lot with myself for many years, today I’m starting to feel good about myself and I have more confidence in what I do.

Is there a chance you made launch your brand of clothing or is that something to think about?

I have been thinking about it. It would be an interesting project for the future. But at the moment my focus is on my youtube channel.

Are you currently working on a project that you wish to tell the readers about?

Yes, after the fashion weeks I always get a lot of inspiration so there will be a lot of new trends videos for spring and summer 2018.

Where can readers find your business?
